MANKATO — Authorities have released the name of a Lakefield woman who was killed Sunday in Mankato after a head-on collision, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Jonna M. Martin, 35, of Lakefield, was one of two people who died in the crash. She was driving one of the cars involved in the accident. The other, Amber M. Menezes of Mankato, was a passenger in the other vehicle.
Information released by the state patrol said troopers were dispatched to the area of Blue Earth County 90 near Pintail Avenue to look for a Chevrolet Cobalt, the subject of a driving complaint. While troopers were searching for the Cobalt, they were informed of a head-on crash.
The 2007 Cobalt, driven by Mark A. Chalin, 23, of St. James, was eastbound on County 90 when it collided with a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero driven by Martin. The crash took place in the westbound lane, according to the state patrol. Chalin’s physical condition after the crash is not recorded, the MSP website states, but his passenger, Menezes, was killed.
Assisting at the scene was Mankato Fire, South Bend Fire, Gold Cross Ambulance, Life Link Air Care, Mayo Air Care and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
