Some summer events, like many of the community festivals that take place throughout this region, return year after year and have become lasting traditions that in all certainty are here to stay.
Still, even the most historic of those festivals pale in comparison to the fair. Many county fairs throughout southwest Minnesota and northwest Iowa have long been fixtures, and that’s certainly the case in Nobles County.
On Thursday, the 130th edition — 130th — of the Nobles County Fair commences in Worthington. As always, the fair will offer plenty for everybody, and that’s the primary reason it continues to endure.
What child doesn’t look forward to the fair to go see the animals? Or go on the carnival rides? Or enjoy some fair food (come to think of it, what grown-up doesn’t like that?).
The fair also represents the culmination of a lot of hard work for many youngsters and volunteers involved with local 4-H programs, not to mention plenty of others who take part somehow in what we’ll call “The Great Nobles County Get-Together.”
We’ll see you at the fair Thursday through Sunday.
