PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Wendland leads Round Lake-Brewster to 4-set victory

ROUND LAKE — Kailey Wendland didn’t wait long to get into top form in the young volleyball season. With her Round Lake-Brewster team hosting Mountain Lake Christian in its season opener on Tuesday, the freshman had a fine all-around performance to lead the Raiders to a victory in four sets.

ROUND LAKE — Kailey Wendland didn’t wait long to get into top form in the young volleyball season.

With her Round Lake-Brewster team hosting Mountain Lake Christian in its season opener on Tuesday, the freshman had a fine all-around performance to lead the Raiders to a victory in four sets.

The game scores were 25-18, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-19.

Wendland led the team in four categories, registering 11 kills, seven ace blocks and 10 digs and going 12-for-16 at the service line with seven aces.

Sarah Baumgard had seven kills for the Raiders, Zoe Baerenwald had nine digs and 16 set-assists and Jenessa Ling contributed with seven digs.

Jessa Taber led MLC with a 17-for-19 serving night with nine aces.

RL-B will on the road at Harris-Lake Park on Thursday.

PA 3, R-T-R 2

PIPESTONE — Pipestone Area showed resilience after dropping the first two games against Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, winning the next three to earn the victory.

Game scores were 19-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-21 and 15-9.

Maggie Perkins led the Arrows with 30 set-assists, Taylor Kruisselbrink led the team with 13 kills, Kari Foss had 10 kills, Amanda Haupert had a team-high 11 digs and Mikayla Enger added nine digs.

Janel Wichern led the Knights with 15 kills and Destiny Fredricks and Courtney Mensen led the team with 12 digs.

PA (1-1) travels to Minneota on Thursday.

H-BC 3, Luverne 2

LUVERNE — Hills-Beaver Creek and Luverne played in a back-and-forth affair, with the Patriots holding on in a tight fifth set to earn the victory.

Game score were 25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 10-25 and 17-15.

Natalie Leuthold led H-BC with six kills and four ace-serves.

Meghan Leuthold had five kills for the Patriots, Haley Van Wyhe had four kills, Chelsi Kroon had two ace-serves, Paige Leuthold had a team-high 18 digs, Katlyn Sandbulte had 12 set-assists and Krista Kramer had eight set-assists.

H-BC (1-0) will next play at Round Lake-Brewster on Sept. 8.

W-WG 3, Lincoln HI 1

IVANHOE — Westbrook-Walnut Grove earned its first win of the season in a matchup against Lincoln HI, winning with game scores of 29-27, 25-16, 15-25 and 25-18.

The Chargers had strong serving in the game, with Anne Woelber going 21-for-23 with three aces, Hailey Osland going 17-for-19 with four aces and Dayna Comnick going 13-for-14 with four aces.

Comnick and Osland each had 11 kills and nine digs. Paige Erickson added nine kills and nine digs for W-WG.

Woelber had 14 set-assists, Comnick had five set assists and Maddie Frank and Karley Deprez each registered an ace-block.

The Chargers (1-1) play their home opener Thursday against Wabasso.

RRC 3, Wabasso 0

WABASSO — Klarissa Larsen had six kills and four blocks, leading Red Rock Central to a season-opening sweep of Wabasso.

Alison Kircher had five kills, 17 set assists and was 11-for-13 serving with three aces for the Falcons, who won 25-21, 25-22 and 25-20.

Brooke Rasmussen led the RRC serving attack by going 15-for-15 with three aces. Tegan Derickson was 14-for-16 with two aces.

Chloe Arfsten and Cassandra Erickson each had four kills, while Derickson led the way with 15 digs.

Rasmussen added 14 digs for the Falcons, who will travel to Springfield on Thursday.

Edgerton 3, Ellsworth 0

ELLSWORTH — Sarah Post and Lindsey Drooger combined for 11 kills, leading Edgerton to a sweep of Ellsworth in a Red Rock Conference match.

Game scores were 25-13, 25-18 and 26-24.

Post finished with a match-high six kills, while Drooger added five.

Jessica Menning had 10 set assists for the Flying Dutchmen, while Amanda Schaap had six.

Tara DeKam led Edgerton with 11 points from the service line.

Ellsworth’s Abby Drenth and Kadie Werner each had three kills on the night.

Emily Timmer was 12-for-14 serving with one ace, while Drenth was 9-for-10 serving with one ace.

Bridget Kramer had six set assists, while Drenth and Timmer each had a block.

Timmer had a team-best nine digs for the Panthers (0-1), who will travel to Murray County Central on Sept. 8.

Minneota 3, MCC 0

SLAYTON — Taylor Reiss had 17 kills, leading Minneota to a sweep of Murray County Central.

Game scores were 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14.

Makenzie Giese had four kills and a block to lead MCC (0-1).

Kristi Bose had four kills, while Taylor Schreier had an ace serve.

The Rebels host Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Friday.
