Cedar Rapids man to face federal charges in bank heist

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A 67-year-old man will face only federal charges in connection with a bank robbery in downtown Cedar Rapids.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — A 67-year-old man will face only federal charges in connection with a bank robbery in downtown Cedar Rapids.

A federal indictment said Tuesday that Robert Rutan had robbed the Hills Bank and Trust office on June 3. He was arrested June 20 in St. Louis suburb of Overland, Mo.,

No weapon was displayed at the bank and no one was hurt.

The Gazette states an Iowa charge of bank robbery was dismissed Tuesday.

Rutan faces up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. His trial date is Oct. 31.
