SOUTHERN CONFEDERACY FOOTBALL: E/E rolls past A-C, 64-18

EDGERTON — Devin Hulstein scored four first-half touchdowns Friday night and Blake Jouwstra rushed for 137 yards — on just three carries — as the Edgerton/Ellsworth football team rolled up 624 yards of total offense in a 64-18 victory over Alden-Conger Friday night.

EDGERTON — Devin Hulstein scored four first-half touchdowns Friday night and Blake Jouwstra rushed for 137 yards — on just three carries — as the Edgerton/Ellsworth football team rolled up 624 yards of total offense in a 64-18 victory over Alden-Conger Friday night.

The Flying Dutchmen opened up a 34-0 lead after the first quarter and were up 50-0 before the Knights scored late in the first half.

Hulstein (six carries, 76 yards; three catches, 88 yards) had touchdown runs of 10 and five yards in the first quarter, while also catching a 52-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Heard.

Jouwstra had a 40-yard TD run in the first quarter and Casey Schilling (four catches, 156 yards) had a 15-yard touchdown reception from Heard.

Heard and Schilling also connected on a two-point conversion in the first quarter and Hulstein ran in for a two-pointer, giving him 20 first-quarter points.

Hulstein’s 47-yard TD run and a 40-yard punt return for a touchdown by Austin LaFollette highlighted Edgerton/Ellsworth’s second quarter. Hulstein and LaFollette each ran for a two-point PAT in the quarter, as well.

After Alden-Conger broke a 72-yard for a score on its first possession of the second half, closing Edgerton/Ellsworth’s lead to 50-12, Jouwstra broke loose on an 85-yard TD run on the Dutchmen’s first play from scrimmage in the third quarter.

LaFollette’s five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and the two-point conversion run by Jesse Berning (five carries, 64 yards) completed Edgerton/Ellsworth’s scoring.

Heard was eight-of-11 passing for 236 yards and the Dutchmen rushed for 388 yards, as Jorge Lopez and Derek Voge also contributing with 48 and 47 yards, respectively, on four carries each.

Lopez and Wade Gunnink each had 10 tackles to lead Edgerton/Ellsworth’s defense, while Voge intercepted a Knights pass.

The Flying Dutchmen will travel to Cleveland for another Southern Confederacy clash Friday night.

Madelia 18, W-WG 16

WESTBROOK — The Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers took a 16-6 lead into the fourth quarter but were unable to hold off a late-game surge by the Madelia Blackhawks in a Southern Confederacy 9-man football contest.

Madelia scored 12 points in the final frame to erase the 10-point deficit for a final score of 18-16.

W-WG (0-1) took a 7-6 lead in the second quarter when Nick Lehnhoff (7-for-23 passing for 123 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions) connected with Matt Otto on a 47-yard pass to paydirt.

Simon Egaas kicked the extra point to give the Chargers a one-point lead.

W-WG held a 9-6 lead at halftime following a safety for the Chargers defense.

Jake Comnick (73 yards on 16 carries) scored the final touchdown for the hosts in the third quarter on a six-yard touchdown run while Egaas kicked in his second extra point to make it 16-6.

Andrew Merrick rushed six times for 35 yards while Dana Madson caught three passes for 63 yards.

Levi Bunting led the Chargers defense with 14 tackles while Derick Ourada, Comnick (one sack, one interception) and Lehnhoff each had nine.

W-WG travels to Alden-Conger Friday.
