MARSHALL — The Worthington boys’ soccer team scored a pair of goals in the first half Thursday and held on for a 2-0 victory against Marshall.
“When we play at home against them, we play hard,” WHS head coach Vilath Lovan said. “When we go over there, they always play hard, too. I thought we just did beautiful against them. We kept making passes and putting it in the goal.”
Jared Kinley and Diego Esquivel each scored a goal for the Trojans, who had a two-goal advantage heading into halftime.
However, the Tigers tightened up on defense and didn’t allow a second-half goal.
“They started playing better, but we kept pushing though,” Lovan said.
Ricardo Maldonado was in net for the Trojans and made key stops to preserve the shutout.
Worthington will travel to Glencoe-Silver Lake on Monday.
Worthington 2 0 — 2
Marshall 0 0 — 0
