GLENCOE — The Worthington boys’ soccer team received goals from four different players in a 4-0 victory against Glencoe-Silver Lake on Monday.
Thun Lay scored the first goal for the Trojans on a 30-yard effort that found the net with the Panthers’ goalkeeper misjudging the shot with a strong wind affecting its trajectory.
Diego Esquivel scored Worthington’s second goal on a penalty kick after G-SL committed a hand ball inside the penalty area.
WHS took the 2-0 lead into halftime and scored in the second half on a header by Jared Kinley and on a strike by Omot Okello.
“(Glencoe-Silver Lake) played pretty hard, but we scored when we needed to,” WHS head coach Vilath Lovan said. “They had a couple of chances, but our defense just shut them down.”
Worthington will play on the road today at Southwest Christian.
Worthington won the Sept. 8 game between the two teams in Worthington by a 2-0 score.
“We’ll give it what we’ve got,” Lovan said. “It’s going to be a hard-fought game. Hopefully we can come up with a good win tomorrow.”
WHS 2 2 — 4
