To recognize and thank veterans for their dedication and commitment to keep the United States of America a free country, the AARP Driver Safety program is proud to offer a free classroom course to all veterans and their spouses, in the United States, regardless of age, during November 2011.

In Nobles County, the District 518 Community Education Department will be hosting these classes at the West Learning Center (old West Elementary School), intersection of Clary and Turner streets. These dates are set up as follows:

* For the first-time participants who have not taken a driver safety course in the past three years, an eight-hour class has been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, starting at 8:30 a.m.

* If you need a four-hour refresher course, a class will be offered at 6 p.m. Nov. 10.

Veterans must provide some form of evidence that they have served. This may be a military ID (retired, active-duty, guard, reserve), discharge papers (DD Form 214), American Legion/VFW card or a dependent ID card.

These classes will also be open to non-veterans, but the regular AARP Driver Safety tuition will be charged. To enroll, call the District 518 Community Education office at 376-6105

Please remember that in Minnesota, drivers of age 55 or older who take these courses are entitled to a 10 percent automobile safe driver insurance discount for three years.
