PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Ellsworth outlasts Hills-Beaver Creek for five-game Red Rock Conference victory

HILLS — After dropping the first two games of Tuesday’s Red Rock Conference volleyball match, the Ellsworth Panthers were facing an uphill battle.
But, for the first time all year, the Panthers played more than three games in a match.
Ellsworth rebounded to win the final three sets, and the match, 3-2, against Hills-Beaver Creek.
Game scores were 23-25, 25-27, 25-15, 25-17 and 15-12.
Abby Drenth had a solid all-around night to lead the Panthers.
She had 10 kills, was 29-for-29 serving with 21 points and three aces and led EHS with 24 digs.
Emily Timmer had eight kills, while Kadie Werner added four.
Bridget Kramer was 25-for-26 serving with 16 points and three aces, while Alexa Huisman was 21-for-25 serving with 14 points and four aces. Werner was a perfect 13-for-13 serving with seven points and two aces.
Kramer led the Panthers with 21 set assists, while Huisman had a team-best three blocks.
Natalie Leuthold was 19-for-20 serving with four aces for the Patriots, while Paige Leuthold was 13-for-13.
Haley Van Wyhe led H-BC with 10 kills and Natalie Leuthold and Meghan Leuthold (two blocks) each had eight kills.
Paige Leuthold led H-BC with 19 set assists, while Hattie Van Wyhe, Haley Van Wyhe and Chelsi Kroon each had 10 digs.
The Patriots (3-9, 2-3) will be at Fulda on Thursday.
Ellsworth (4-5, 3-2) will be at Southwest Star Concept on Thursday.
SWC 3, MCC 1
SLAYTON — Deidra Vander Woude had nine kills and was 12-for-14 serving with two aces to lead Southwest Christian to a victory against Murray County Central.
Game scores were 17-25, 25-23, 25-21 and 25-20.
Amber Pater led SWC with 10 kills, while Hanna Bosma added eight.
Bosma was also 7-for-10 serving with two aces.
Michaela Zeinstra was 13-for-13 serving and charted a team-best 15 set assists for the Eagles, while Emaleigh Vreeman was 10-for-10 serving with two aces to go with 12 set assists.
Zeinstra and Bosma each had three blocks, while Hannah Van Dyke led the Eagles with 21 digs. Pater added 14.
Taylor Schreier led MCC with 15 service points and one ace. Makenzie Giese had nine points and three aces, while Ashley Woldt had 10 points.
Brooklyn Schmitz had a match-high 28 set assists, while Giese led the Rebels with 13 kills.
Woldt added nine kills for MCC ( 5-3, 3-2), which will travel to Edgerton on Thursday.
The Eagles (13-3-1, 4-1) will host Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin the same night.
Luverne 3, Lennox, S.D. 0
LENNOX, S.D. — Chelsea Curtis had a team-high 15 kills as the Luverne Cardinals swept Lennox, S.D. in an inter-state match.
Game scores were 25-21, 25-14 and 25-16.
Curtis also had six digs and a solo block for the Cardinals.
Taylor Stratton added six kills, two solo blocks, three block assists and was 14-for-17 serving with four aces, while Hailey Stulen also had six kills and was 10-for-11 serving with three aces.
Jessica Vande Hoef led LHS with 17 digs, while Nicole Hoff had a solo block.
Justine Hanson charted 10 set assists and Cheyenne Hemme had eight for Luverne. Hemme was also 17-for-18 serving with eight aces for the Cardinals, who will travel to Pipestone Area on Thursday.
SSC 3, RL-B 0
ROUND LAKE — Alyssa Hendrickson charted a match-high 11 kills as Southwest Star Concept swept Round Lake-Brewster, 25-12, 25-12 and 25-18.
Hendrickson was also 8-for-9 serving with one ace to go along with seven blocks.
Courtney Place had eight kills and was 28-for-30 serving with nine aces. She also had seven blocks.
Maddie Rasche had 15 digs, while Mandy Henkels added 13 digs and had 23 set assists for the Quasars (12-6, 5-0), who will host Ellsworth on Thursday.
Kailey Wendland led the Raiders (2-6, 0-5) with eight kills, seven digs and was 8-for-8 serving with two aces.
Sarah Baumgard had seven kills and seven digs, while Halie Spessard was 8-for-8 serving.
Zoe Baerenwald was 7-for-7 serving and had 11 set assists for RL-B, which is at Adrian on Thursday.
W-WG 3, Edgerton 0
EDGERTON — Paige Erickson did a little bit of everything for Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
The junior outside hitter was 12-for-13 serving with one ace to go along with a team-high nine kills as W-WG won against Edgerton 25-18, 25-7 and 25-16.
Hailey Osland was 15-for-15 serving with four aces to go along with 13 digs, while Anne Woelber (15) and Abby Herding (seven) led the team in set assists.
Dayna Comnick was 13-for-13 serving with two aces. She also had eight digs, eight kills and a block and a half in the match.
Karley Deprez had eight kills and a block for the Chargers (11-5, 5-0), who host Red Rock Central on Thursday in a big conference matchup.
The Flying Dutchmen received three kills apiece from Lindsey Drooger and Sarah Post. Brittani Roskamp had a team-high 12 digs, Jessica Menning had five set assists and Ciara Everett led the team by going 12-for-12 from the service line, notching five service points.
Edgerton (3-9, 1-4) will host Murray County Central on Thursday.
RRC 3, ML/B-O 0
JEFFERS — An effective serving performance and strong net play by Chloe Arfsten helped Red Rock Central earn a 25-13, 25-6, 25-15 sweep against Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.
Arfsten was 24-for-25 serving with a whopping 10 service aces and also registered six kills.
Alison Kircher had a solid all-around effort for the Falcons by going 14-for-14 from the service line with two aces, putting up 22 set assists and contributing five digs. Brooke Rasmussen also had five digs, Klarissa Larsen had a team-high eight kills and Katie Larsen added five kills of her own.
McKenzie Hopwood led the Wolverines with a 9-for-9 serving performance and a team-high five kills. Natalie Junker was 6-for-8 serving with one service ace, Rachel Dukes had 10 set assists and three digs, Mikayla Falk also had three digs and Breonna Ommodt notched two blocks.
RRC (8-5, 4-1) will be on the road against Westbrook-Walnut Grove on Thursday in a matchup between two of the Red Rock Conference’s top teams.
ML/B-O (6-7-1, 1-4) will play at Southwest Christian on Thursday.
Fulda 3, Adrian 0
ADRIAN — Fulda prevailed in a pair of closely contested opening games en route to a sweep of Adrian.
Game scores were 25-22, 26-24 and 25-15.
Silvia Zanini (22-for-23 serving with 17 service points and two aces, seven kills, 12 digs) had a strong all-around performance to lead the Raiders.
Brittney Hermeling had a team-high nine kills for FHS, Rachel Cheadle notched eight kills and four blocks, Courtney Hulstein had 25 set assists and three blocks, Brooke Wenzel was 9-for-9 serving with five service points and nine digs and Dani Hermeling was 12-for-12 serving with seven service points.
Sydne Springman had a good night at the net for the Dragons with 12 kills and 10 blocks. Courtney Vaske had six blocks and eight digs for Adrian, Taylor Voss had five kills and 10 digs, Nichole Loosbrock had 10 set assists and 10 service points and Rachel Kontz contributed nine set assists.
Fulda (4-7, 2-3) will host Hills-Beaver Creek on Thursday.
The Dragons (4-7, 0-5) will host Round Lake-Brewster on Thursday.
