SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa — A traffic stop led to a list of charges for 23-year-old Jeffrey Duane Krowiorz Friday in Spirit Lake, Iowa, according to information from the Spirit Lake Police Department.
Shortly after 6 p.m., Krowiorz was stopped for a traffic violation at the intersection of Stake Out Road and Chalstroms Beach Road. Krowiorz, from Vail, Iowa, allegedly sped away from the stop unlawfully and was pursued by officers.
He drove his Ford F150 north, then left the road and drove through a cornfield until he intersected with Sunner Avenue. Krowiorz headed north, but eventually lost control of the vehicle and collided into a ditch. He was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
His vehicle started the grass on fire under the truck, and the Spirit Lake Fire Department was dispatched to the scene.
An investigation at the crash scene turned up approximately 10 grams of methamphetamine and 100 grams of marijuana. Krowiorz was also allegedly in possession of paraphernalia including a scale and baggies, and a large sum of money.
Krowiorz was transported to the Dickinson County Jail and charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, drug tax stamp, eluding, prohibited acts, OWI second offense, providing false information, driving while suspended and several traffic citations.
Krowiorz has a previous drug-related history in several Iowa counties. He entered into a plea agreement in 2008 that encompassed Dickinson, Emmet and Clay counties and included charges of first-degree burglary, domestic assault, possession of lithium, possession of anhydrous ammonia, possession of pseudoephedrine and of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to two years in prison.
