Prep Wrestling: Wabasso-Red Rock Central in second place after day 1 at RV wrestling tourney

REDWOOD FALLS — After Day 1 of the two-day wrestling tournament in the Redwood River Riot, Wabasso-Red Rock Central is in second place (56 points), behind Kerkoven Murdock Sunburg (57).

REDWOOD FALLS — After Day 1 of the two-day wrestling tournament in the Redwood River Riot, Wabasso-Red Rock Central is in second place (56 points), behind Kerkoven Murdock Sunburg (57).

Worthington is 21 out of 28 teams with 22 points.

There are a handful of local wrestlers still alive and ready to compete in the quarterfinals today.

At 106 pounds, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton/Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s Logan Axford went 1-0 Friday. At 113 pounds, WRRC’s Spencer Jenniges recorded a major decision and pinned his third round opponent to advance. WHS’s Anthony Luft also advanced to today’s bouts.

At 126 pounds, WRRC’s Brandon Goblirsch is still alive. WHS’ Jared Kinley had a major decision at 132 pounds to advance to the next round.

At 138 pounds, TMBWWG’s Joe Ruppert will meet Fulda/Murray County Central’s Austin Kluis in today’s third round match. WRRC’s Tanner Rohlik recorded a pin in the 145-pound weight class and will wrestler again today.

At 160 pounds, FMCC’s Ben Loosbrock, TMBWWG’s Ian Mariner and WRRC’s Mitchell Rohlik are all still alive and will compete in the third round today. WHS’ Blake Schroeder and WRRC’s Blake Altermatt each recorded pins to advance in the 170-pound weight class.

At 182 pounds, WRRC’s Nathan Mattison had a major decision to advance to the third round. And at 195 pounds, TMBWWG’s Brad Schmidt recorded a pin to advance.

And finally at 220 pounds, both WRRC’s Cody Welch and FMCC’s Brian Behrends are each competing in today’s third round duals.

The tournament will conclude today.

Adrian 40, SFR 28

ADRIAN — Four members of the Adrian wrestling team recorded pins in the Dragons’ win over Sioux Falls Roosevelt Thursday.

Ben Mulder (138 pounds) pinned Nahom Abebe at 0:46, Matthew Slater (145 pounds) pinned Soleil Bashale at 0:25, Mitchell Sieve (170 pounds) pinned Alex Garcia at 1:40 and Adam Garms (195 pounds) pinned Brian Barber at 4:16.

Jayden Bullerman recorded a tech fall in the 126-pound weight class, while Nate Lynn had a tech fall at 152 pounds.

Tony Lynn (120 pounds) and Zach Albertson (160 pounds) also recorded wins for Adrian.

The Dragons’ next dual is Tuesday against Pipestone Area.
