Obituary: Ruth Kunerth

Ruth Kunerth, 92, was born on February 9, 1919, on the Kraft family farm near Brewster, MN, the daughter of George and Sadie (Brink) Kraft. She was baptized at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster. Ruth attended Hersey Country School, District 53, for eight years. She then worked for area families caring for children and doing household chores. Ruth was a devoted babysitter in her home for many children, over many years, and later in life she was a cook at Cashel Nursing Home in Worthington. Ruth was united in marriage to Frank “Al” Kunerth on November 3, 1939, in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Worthington for most of the 36 years they were married. They lived on a farm north of Brewster when they first married and then bought a home in Worthington.

Ruth was a devoted homemaker and proud mother who loved to make quilts, sewing, and crocheting. She enjoyed working in her garden and canning and preserving of the food for her family. Each year she enjoyed her flower beds and always surrounded her vegetable garden with four o’clocks. Ruth always took the time to enjoy family and friends who would stop by for coffee and one of her many wonderful baked treats. The door to her house was always open to help anyone, in any way she could. She loved to talk about her family every chance she got; she always had a smile on her face, lots and lots of patience and a hug for anyone who needed one.

After her husband died in 1975, she continued to live in their Worthington home. She lived there until February of 2005, when she entered Golden Horizon’s. For the past 1½ years, she has resided at South Shore Care Center and remained there as a resident until her death on Sunday, December 25, 2011.

Ruth is survived by one son, Gary (Carol) Kunerth of Worthington, MN; six daughters, Janet (Mike) Kingery of Willmar, MN, Carol (Virgil) Stewart of Harrington, DE, Kathy Aanenson of Slayton, MN, Mary Lou Kunerth of Worthington, MN, Anna Marie (Mike) Rasche of Jackson, MN, and Sharon Kunerth of Worthington, MN; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one sister, Marie North of Riverside, CA; two brothers, Charles Kraft of Worthington, MN, and Raymond Kraft of Brewster, MN, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, “Al”, two sons, Daryl “Bud” Kunerth and Marvin Kunerth, her parents, and six siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN. Burial will be held in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Brewster, MN.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
