WHS Gymnastics: Trojans tame Tigers

MARSHALL — Worthington’s gymnastics team defeated Marshall 133.55-105.725 Thursday.

Tara Svalland used first-place finishes on the vault (9.375), bars (8.30), balance beam (8.40) and a third-place finish on the floor exercise (9.125) to win the all-around crown with a 35.20.

“Tara is a wonderful performer and a great competitor,” WHS coach Joni Reitmeier said. “She’s one of those girls you can always count on to give a great performance.”

Paige Kinley took second in the all-around (34.375) behind a tie for first on the floor (9.15), second-place finishes on vault (8.975) and bars (8.10) and a third-place finish on the beam (8.15).

Anna Koepsell tied for first on floor (9.15) and finished second on the beam (8.25), Haley Gravenhof finished third on vault (8.55) and Stephanie Jaycox finished third on bars (7.20) to help lead the Trojans.

“Everyone was very consistent tonight,” Reitmeier said. “We had a very, very good night.”

The JV team defeated Marshall 115.20-77.25 as well.

Jaycox tied for first on vault (8.30) with Koepsell and finished second on floor (7.75). Liz Hayenga finished first on the beam (6.45) and on the floor exercise (8.05) and Hanna Huisman won the bars (6.90). Tori Svalland finished second on the beam (6.15) and third on vault (8.20), Whitney Jensen and Kara Honius (6.80) tied for second on bars, while Gravenhof (6.00) and Alyssa Williams (7.50) finished third on the beam and floor, respectively, to lead the Trojans.

WHS is at the Jackson County Central tournament Saturday.
