Letter: Caucuses a valuable experience

On Tuesday night, more than 150 people attended the Nobles County Republican Caucus. There were neighbors, students and members of the media in attendance. A group of immigrants from a citizenship class came and observed as well. We would love to have them join our caucus as voting members once they have become citizens of this great nation.
I just wanted to speak to the teachers who asked students to attend for extra credit. Thank you. What a positive way to get our youths involved in the political process. Just a note, though — if the students have my signature on their sheet, they attended the entire caucus, and I am proud of them. If there is another signatory, you may want to ask some open-ended questions about the event. A small number found someone to sign their sheet before the caucus started and then left without engaging in any of the session.
While there are things that frustrate me about the whole political process, I have found great enjoyment in the precinct caucuses over the years. I meet people from my neighborhood, and we talk about our wonderful country and how to make it and our community a better place to live.
