PREP GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Central Lyon advances to region semifinals with 34-29 win

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa — Kelsey Ackerman scored 11 points, while Lexi Ackerman added eight points, five steals and five assists to lead the 11th-ranked Central Lyon Lions past the 10th-ranked Boyden-Hull Comets by a score of 34-29 in the quarterfinals of the Iowa Class 1A, Region 1 girls’ basketball playoffs Tuesday night.

Jocelyn Doorenbos led B-H (17-6) with nine points.

The Lions (20-3) advance to play Clay Central-Everly in the semifinals Friday night in Lake Park.

BUTTERFIELD — Paige Erickson totaled 16 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and three blocks to lead the Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers past the Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin Wolverines in the Red Rock Conference.

Karley Deprez added 15 points for W-WG (10-10, 7-7), while Maddie Frank compiled 10 points and nine rebounds and Anne Woelber had nine points and six assists.

ML/B-O (4-19, 1-13) was led by Janessa Peters with a game-high 18 points followed by nine points from each Brianna Wenner and Rachel Dukes.

Both teams travel for games on Thursday as the Chargers take on Hills-Beaver Creek and the Wolverines play Fulda.

NORTHROP — The Southwest Star Concept Quasars took a one-point lead into the halftime break but couldn’t maintain the edge as the Martin Luther Knights claimed a non-conference win Tuesday night.

ML (12-10) was led by Catie Sherman’s 11 points.

SSC (4-17, 4-10 Red Rock Conference) received a pair of double-doubles in the loss as Connor DeWall posted 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Sarah Baumgard also had 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Quasars return to conference action Thursday when they travel to Jeffers to play Red Rock Central.
