PREP BOYS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Harris-Lake Park punches ticket to district championship game

LAKE PARK, Iowa — Eli Ihnen had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Brady Nissen had eight points and 11 rebounds to help punch Harris-Lake Park’s ticket to the Region 5 District Championship game with a 40-34 win over Newell-Fonda in the semifinals Tuesday in boys’ basketball action.

LAKE PARK, Iowa — Eli Ihnen had 19 points and 13 rebounds and Brady Nissen had eight points and 11 rebounds to help punch Harris-Lake Park’s ticket to the Region 5 District Championship game with a 40-34 win over Newell-Fonda in the semifinals Tuesday in boys’ basketball action.

H-LP (22-0) will take on defending 1A state champions Storm Lake (23-0) in a battle of undefeated teams at Emmetsburg Thursday.

Brady Bohe (eight points) led N-F (18-5).

ROUND LAKE — Dalton Huisman had 17 points, Nick Nolte had 13 points, Casey Schilling had 12 points and Travis Kvaale had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead Ellsworth (16-8, 9-6) in the Red Rock showdown in boys’ basketball action Tuesday.

Jake Walker (14 points) and Cole Bosma (10 points) led Round Lake-Brewster (1-20, 1-14).

RL-B will host Westbrook-Walnut Grove Friday and EHS will host Edgerton Friday.

EDGERTON — Southwest Christian (20-1, 15-0) cruised to a Red Rock Conference victory Tuesday in boys’ basketball action behind 32 points and 10 rebounds from Zach Huisken, 11 points, five rebounds and three assists from Andrew Top, 10 points and 11 rebounds from Leighton Sampson, 10 points from Gabe Vander Veen and 10 assists from Dominic Nibbelink.

Edgerton was led by Wade Gunnink (11 points), Johnny Menning (12 points) and Isaac Heard (11 points).

SWC will be at Murray County Central Friday and Edgerton will be at Ellsworth Friday.

ADRIAN — Hills-Beaver Creek’s Jeff Sandbulte had 22 points, Dylan Gehrke had 15 points and Seth Nuffer had 10 points, while the Patriots boys’ basketball team shot 19 of 38 from inside the 3-point arc and hit 14 of 17 free-throw attempts to pick up the Red Rock Conference victory Tuesday.

Adrian (10-12) was without leading scorer and rebounder Kyle Kilgore. Nick Reyne (22 points, three steals), Kody Henning (11 points, five assists) and Brandon Weidert (13 rebounds, three blocks, three assists) led the Dragons.

Adrian will host Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin Friday and H-BC (8-14) will host Southwest Star Concept Friday.

LAMBERTON — Carter Kirk had 17 points, Beau Herrig had 16 points, Cody Penner had 15 points and Kaleb Grev had 10 points to lead Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin (18-5, 11-4) in boys’ basketball action in the Red Rock Conference showdown Tuesday.

Henry Rogotzke had 18 points and Jeff DeCock had 16 points to lead Red Rock Central (9-13, 7-8).

RRC will play at Fulda Friday and ML/B-O will be at Adrian Friday.

OKABENA —- Finishing the first half on a 17-2 run and then scoring the first four points after intermission, Southwest Star Concept built a 33-13 lead on Westbrook-Walnut Grove and pretty much maintained a near 20-point advantage the rest of the way.

A total of 10 players scored for the Quasars, who improve to 13-8 for the season and are 8-7 in the Red Rock Conference.

The trio of Jameson Collin (seven rebounds), Andrew Kramer (four steals) and Justin Jass (five rebounds) paced SSC’s scoring with 15, 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Mark Ferguson dished off four second-half assists for the Quasars, while Zach Schumacher blocked four shots in the game.

The Chargers, who had several early leads and trailed just 12-11 with just over seven minutes to play in the first half, put nine players in the scoring column, including 12 points by Taylor Lindaman, who was eight-of-nine at the free throw line.

Jacob Comnick and Reed Bakken each claimed 10 rebounds for W-WG, while Lindaman and Alex Knutson both passed for a trio of assists.

Matt Otto scored eight second-half points for the Chargers (3-18, 2-13), who travel to Round Lake Friday night to play the Round Lake-Brewster Raiders.

SSC is also on the road Friday, playing Hills-Beaver Creek at Hills.

WINDOM — Parker Lanoue had 24 points to lead Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s boys’ basketball team.

Windom (14-8) will travel to Marshall Friday.

MCC 60, Fulda 52

SLAYTON — Murray County Central’s Sam Nysetvold (14 points) got a steal and scored with 24 seconds left in regulation to force overtime and MCC outscored Fulda 8-0 in the extra frame for the Red Rock Conference boys’ basketball victory Tuesday.

Nate Wieneke had 22 points and Chris Halbur had 11 points to help pace MCC (14-7, 10-5).

Aaron Tiesler had 14 points and Todd Peterson had 13 points to lead Fulda (18-6, 12-3).

Fulda will host Red Rock Central Friday and MCC will host Southwest Christian Friday.
