PREP BOYS' BASKETBALL: SWC perfect in RRC

EDGERTON — Southwest Christian capped a perfect season in the Red Rock Conference, cruising by Fulda Monday, as the Eagles defeated the Raiders 71-46 in boys’ basketball action.

SWC (22-1, 17-0) was led by Zach Huisken (18 points, 20 rebounds, seven assists, four blocks), who picked up his 1,000th career rebound, Andrew Top (22 points, nine rebounds, six assists) and Dominic Nibbelink (11 points).

Fulda (19-7, 13-4) was led by Matthew Appel (15 points, four rebounds), Clarke Hein (nine points) and Keith Gehl (seven points, four rebounds).

Fulda will take on the winner of Thursday’s game between Russell-Tyler-Ruthton and Westbrook-Walnut Grove and SWC will play the winner of Thursday’s game between Hills-Beaver Creek and Wabasso in the Section 3A playoffs Saturday at Worthington.

ELLSWORTH — Casey Schilling had 23 points, 12 rebounds, six blocks, five assists and five steals to lead Ellsworth’s boys’ basketball team in the Red Rock Conference regular season finale for both teams Monday.

Nick Nolte added 16 points and Dalton Huisman netted 23 points to help pace EHS (18-8, 11-6).

Adrian (10-14, 8-9) was led by Kyle Kilgore (22 points), Brandon Weidert (14 points) and Taylor Recker (11 points).

Adrian will host Edgerton Thursday in the first round of the South Sub-Section of Section 3A playoffs and the winner will take on Ellsworth Saturday at Worthington.

EDGERTON — Dylan Gehrke had 33 points, Jeff Sandbulte had 22 points and Seth Nuffer had 14 points to lead Hills-Beaver Creek’s boys’ basketball team in the Red Rock Conference showdown and final game of the regular season for both teams Monday.

Austin Mertens had 22 points and 21 rebounds, Isaac Heard had 14 points, Wade Gunnink had 13 points and 14 rebounds and Johnny Menning had 12 points to lead Edgerton (2-20, 1-16).

H-BC (10-14, 8-9) will host Wabasso and Edgerton travels to Adrian in the first round of the South Sub-Section of Section 3A playoffs Thursday.

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Andrew Hempeck had 18 points and seven rebounds, Beau Herrig had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Carter Kirk had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Kyle Thiessen had 12 points to lead Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin’s boys’ basketball team in the Red Rock Conference clash against Murray County Central Monday.

MCC (14-9, 10-7) was led by Trent Carlson (21 points), Nate Wieneke (19 points), Sam Beech (12 points) and Sam Nysetvold (11 points).

ML/B-O (20-5, 13-4) will host the winner of Madelia and Round Lake-Brewester March 6 in Section 2A playoffs and MCC will take on Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Saturday at Worthington in the playoffs of the South Sub-Section of Section 3A.

TRACY — Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (11-13) fell to Redwood Valley (23-1) in the team’s regular season finale in boys’ basketball action Monday.

Jacob Orren had 14 points for T-M-B.

T-M-B will travel to BOLD in the first round of the Section 3AA playoffs Saturday.

WESTBROOK — Red Rock Central’s boys’ basketball team closed the first half on a 13-0 run and never looked back behind 22 points and four steals from Jeff DeCock, 16 points and 10 rebounds from Daniel Maras and 10 points from Dylan Bunting in the Red Rock Conference matchup versus Westbrook-Walnut Grove Monday.

W-WG (4-19) was led by Taylor Lindaman (30 points, five steals) and Jacob Comnick (14 points, 10 rebounds).

W-WG will travel to Red Rock Central Thursday in the opening round of Section 3A playoffs.

OKABENA — Jameson Collin’s double-double of 20 points and 13 rebounds paced Southwest Star Concept to 10-point victory over Round Lake-Brewster in the final regular-season game for both rival squads.

The winning Quasars (14-9, 9-8) led by seven at halftime and built a 45-29 lead with nine minutes left in the sec-ond half.

Andrew Kramer (five re-bounds, two steals) and Zach Schumacher (nine rebounds) scored nine and eight points, respectively, for SSC. Austin Liepold snagged eight re-bounds for the Quasars, who had a total of eight players score in the game.

Jake Walker scored 15 of his team-high 17 points in the second half to lead the Raid-ers (1-22, 1-16), while also con-tributing a team-high 11 re-bounds and a game-high six steals. Walker hit four 3-pointers after intermission and was a perfect three-of-three at the line after getting fouled on an attempted 3-point shot.

Cole Bosma (11 points, four assists), Kyle Wendland (eight points), Kurt Schmitz (seven rebounds) and Darrin Schmitz (six rebounds) also had steady performances for RL-B.

The 10th-seeded Raiders open Section 2A tournament play Thursday at Madelia against the seventh-seeded Madelia Blackhawks.

SSC, the No. 5 seed in 2A, is idle until the tournament’s quarterfinals when the Qua-sars tangle with the fourth-seeded Springfield Tigers — the defending Class A state champions — at Springfield March 6.
