Letter: Gift of flowers leads to reminiscing
I know no other way to say a sincere “thank you” to the secret sender of carnations to me at Christmas time.By: Lillian Frey, Sibley, Iowa, Worthington Daily Globe
I know no other way to say a sincere “thank you” to the secret sender of carnations to me at Christmas time. I heard they were sent from Worthington, and I also want to say it’s good to know that my idea of the new fire station location may have helped make the final decision sooner. Years ago, when the demolition of Memorial Auditorium was in question, I was the “old lady” who suggested, “Dry the walls with heat.” Now it’s remodeled with additions and used continually again.
I was on that stage, in about seventh or eighth grade, in the Rural School Students Spelling Contest. I lost by not spelling “shivaree” correctly. Now I’m enjoying your Daily Globe here in the nursing home, and especially enjoy reading about my many friends in the Worthington area. It’s truly a blessing.
The Reminiscing page reminds me of when our family of nine plus Mom and Dad went to church in the “horse and buggy days” on Sundays), and the many cold days to rural school with heated flat stones in gunny sacks to keep our feet from freezing. It was an age of survival in those days — instead of like nowadays, with computers and millionaires.
All are good memories because with God’s help and guidance, we live today.
