Patricia A. Krekelberg, age 80, of Worthington, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Sunset Cottage in Worthington.
Patricia A. Krekelberg, age 80, of Worthington, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at the Sunset Cottage in Worthington. She was born April 23, 1931, in Worthington to parents David and Bridget (Nelle) Kennedy Wallace. Pat attended school at Worthington and graduated from Worthington High School in 1949 and then attended Worthington Junior College for one year, where she met her future husband Dale E. Krekelberg. After her schooling she worked at Nobles County Library.
On August 23, 1952, she was united in marriage to Dale E. Krekelberg. After their marriage the couple lived in Worthington from 1952 to 1964. In 1965 they moved to Slayton and back to Worthington in 1966. Pat was an activity director at Fauskee Nursing Home for many years and later worked at Neeb’s Downtown Floral and was a full-time homemaker.
Pat was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic minister and was involved with the ladies guild, altar society, Bible study group and the prayer chain. She was also a volunteer at St. Mary’s School and St. Mary’s religious education program. Pat was a charter member of the Worthington Hospice Board and was a hospice volunteer. She belonged to the Evening Belles Craft group and the Thursday Ladies Holy Hour. Pat was politically involved with the DFL in Nobles County. She was also a member of the Worthington Country Club, numerous bridge clubs and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed spending time at their family cabin and enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren. She was very involved with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities and loved her pets. She loved anything Irish and bird watching. In later years she took great comfort in praying the rosary and had a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin.
Pat is survived by her children, Julie (Steve) Busch, Burnsville, MN; Joel (Amy Ernst) Krekelberg, Worthington, MN; Jane (Dale) Specken, Hopkins, MN; Nancy (Lonny) Johnson, Worthington, MN; and Jon (Jenny) Krekelberg, Burnsville, MN; 11 grandchildren, Bridget Busch, Melissa Saigh, Courtney Eckstein, Scott Specken, Cavan Krekelberg, Carly Johnson, Ian Krekelberg, Patrick Johnson, Paige Specken, Maris Krekelberg, Charles Krekelberg; and four great-grandchildren, Max, Kayden, Kasen and Linna; sisters, Jane Nolde, Roseville, MN, and Kay Andrews, Roseville, MN; and a brother Dave (Bev) Wallace, Burnsville, MN; a sister-in-law, Clary Wallace, Roseville, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale E. Krekelberg on August 6, 2011, a brother Jack Wallace and a niece Katie Wallace.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington with a rosary to follow. Visitation will also be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington.
The service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Worthington with Father James Callahan, Father Jose Morales, Father Cathal Gallagher and Deacon Vern Behrends officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
