MANKATO — The Minnesota 60 detour has been changed to Nobles County 2 (340th Street), Nobles County 13 and Interstate 90, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
The current Minnesota 60 detour of Nobles County 4 and Nobles County 5 will be closed except to local traffic while crews make pavement repairs. Nobles County 4 and 5 will also be restricted to seven-ton-per-axle load limit during the spring thaw.
The repairs are necessary to preserve the remaining life of the pavement, according to county and state officials. The detour route was in rough shape from the added traffic over the winter, and the most recent early thaw resulted in additional damage. The detour to Rushmore will need to remain in place until repairs are completed as soon as feasible.
MnDOT’s initial plans did not include using the detour over the winter, but the state government shutdown significantly delayed some of the construction on Minnesota 60.
Construction on Minnesota 60 will resume as soon as weather permits. In addition to the first and second phases of the project and the railroad bridge replacement, the third phase from County Road 35 to I-90 will begin this summer.
R & G Construction Co., Marshall, is the prime contractor on the Paul Avenue to Nobles County 35 segment. Mathiowetz Construction, Sleepy Eye, is prime contractor on the rural segment from Nobles County 4 to Paul Avenue. The replacement of the railroad bridge by Lunda Construction Company is part of the Minnesota 60 expansion from Bigelow to Interstate 90 in Worthington.
