Obituary: Richard Karschnik

Richard Karschnik passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at Crossroads Care Center, Worthington.

Richard William Rudolph Karschnik, 84, was born on June 25, 1926, in Christiania Township, Jackson County, MN. He was the son of William and Clara (Renczykowski) Karschnik. Richard was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimball Township, Jackson County and later confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN. As a youth, Richard attended rural schools in Jackson County and Cottonwood County, before graduating from Windom High School in Windom, MN. He farmed with his father, Bill and brother, Raymond in the Brewster and Dundee area until his father’s death. In 1964, Richard and his mother moved to Dundee and he continued to farm with his brother. After his brother’s death in 1990, Richard continued to farm until his retirement on August 11, 1995. He enjoyed attending parades, hunting, fishing, and wildlife. In August of 2006, Richard moved to Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, where he passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.

Richard is survived by two sisters, Irene (Dale) Rutzen of Mankato, MN and Alice McCarty of Sibley, IA; two sisters-in-law, Donna Karschnik of Dundee, MN and Muriel Karschnik of Worthington, MN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond and Willard.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Pastor Tom Braun officiating. Casket bearers will be Tom Prins, Chris Prins, Kurt Karschnik, Bob Hanson, Pat Hanson and Kraig Leopold. Burial will be in the Hersey Cemetery in Brewster, MN.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home in Worthington.
