PREP SOFTBALL: Cardinals top Dragons 10-5 to open up the season

ELLSWORTH — The Luverne softball team won its season opener with a road victory over Adrian 10-5 on Thursday.

The Cardinals’ Ashley Olson pitched a complete game, giving up five runs, four walks and had seven strikeouts.

Erica DeBoer’s three-run homer in the first inning was a highlight for the Cardinals (1-0). DeBoer finished the game with three RBI and two runs scored.

Olson went 3-for-4 with a triple and two runs, Ashley Otten went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, Mallory Edwards had two RBI, while Tara Sudenga had two runs for the Cardinals.

The Dragons (0-1) were led by Rachel Kontz, who had two RBI. Heidi Nolte added two runs for Adrian.

Adrian’s next game is Tuesday on the road against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton. Luverne plays Southwestern United on Tuesday as well.
