April each year is designated Parkinson’s Awareness Month. There are a million to a million and a half Americans living with Parkinson’s, a chronic and progressively debilitating disease that has yet has no cure. There are research facilities across the country working on many aspects of the disease, the primary being NIH (National Institute of Health).
Advocates are petitioning Congress to sustain funding of NIH’s Parkinson’s research and passage of a bill to urge the FDA to streamline their drug-approval process to get new treatments into the pipe-line sooner.
We are fortunate in our district to have Congressman Tim Walz, who has consistently supported Parkinson’s causes. I urge his constituents to applaud his efforts.
