WINDOM — The Windom Area Chamber of Commerce will have a new executive director beginning mid-April.

A Trimont native, Kelsey Carlson is excited to begin her new job as chamber director.

“I’d never worked with the Chamber of Commerce before so this will be my first time,” she said during a phone interview.

While Carlson has yet to meet with fellow Chamber of Commerce board members to identify priorities the board would like to achieve, she explained that she will be assisting to promote businesses in Windom.

“I’d like to create events that are family-oriented but still appeal to a broad range of people,” she added.

She views her job function as “creating unity within the community.”

“The importance is getting to know people and gaining the understanding of the things they are looking for,” she said.

Carlson graduated from Martin County West in 2003. She received her bachelor’s degree in agriculture education from South Dakota State University.

She spent four years in South Dakota working on event planning and fundraising for non-profit organizations, both areas about which she is passionate.

She moved back to rural Minnesota in July and has been employed at Tri-County Implement in Jackson.

“I think smaller communities have so much to offer and I want to promote that,” Carlson said about what drew her to applying for the executive director position.

She is enthusiastic about upcoming businesses, especially those with younger ownership.

“Windom is an active community with a lot of people wanting to be involved,” Carlson said.

She plans to move to Windom after transitioning into her new job.
