Letter: Nation's flag, religious freedom 'under attack'
I have thought about writing a letter like this for some time but have hesitated for various reasons. I now feel like Popeye in the cartoons where he says, “I’ve stood all I can stands and I can’t stands no more!”By: Eldon Larson, Fulda, Worthington Daily Globe
I have thought about writing a letter like this for some time but have hesitated for various reasons. I now feel like Popeye in the cartoons where he says, “I’ve stood all I can stands and I can’t stands no more!”
What I’m referring to is the constant attack on our country’s flag and our religious freedom. We are told by our leaders that we are suppose to be tolerant of the beliefs of others, but the “others” have no tolerance for our beliefs. What’s more is that our leaders knuckle under to the “others” every time. Leaders — get some backbone, stand up tall and say, “This is America, if you don't like my flag, look the other way.” Why should our young men and women go to fight and possibly die for someone who hates our God and country? Merle Haggard said in one of his songs in reference to the flag, “If you don’t love it, leave it.”
We have taken God out of so many areas and what comes in? Violence, drugs and perversion. I say to those who are offended by my God who is the Creator of the universe and savior of all believing mankind — leave! Go live in a country where they worship goats, frogs or some ugly stone statue. Don’t come here and tell that I can’t make reference to my flag or my God any place or time I want to.
