PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Murray County Central rocks RRC/W-WG 21-10

SAMBORN – The Murray County Central softball team won handily over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a 21-10 (five inning) contest Thursday.

SAMBORN – The Murray County Central softball team won handily over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a 21-10 (five inning) contest Thursday.

Ashley Clark pitched for MCC, tossing two innings. She gave up eight runs and walked six batters. Kristi Bose came in for relief, tossing three innings and giving up two runs and walking two.

Taylor Wilhite started the game for the Falcons. She gave up 19 runs—12 earned—walked 10 and struck out three through three-plus innings pitched. Kayli Davis tossed the last two innings, striking out two and walking three.

At the plate, Clark hit a grand slam in the third inning to give her four RBIs on the day. Jade Giese was 2-for-3 with a double and Taylor Schreier was 1-for-2 with a double.

For RRC/W-WG, Kendra Hagert was 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Wilhite was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Klarissa Larsen was 2-for-3 with a double.

The Falcons’ next game is today against Comfrey/Cedar Mountain, while MCC plays DeLaSalle on Saturday.

EDGERTON – The Edgerton/Southwest Christian softball team remains undefeated, improving its record to 4-0 with a win over Southwestern United Thursday.

The winning pitcher was Breana Van Dyke, who tossed five innings, giving up two runs on three hits, striking out 10 and walking three.

At the plate, the Flying Dutchmen were led by Jessica Menning, who was 4-for-4 with a solo homerun, a double and three RBIs. Tara DeKam was 4-for-4 with three RBIs, Tanner Gunnink was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Brittani Roskamp was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Van Dyke was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

For SWU (0-3), Jordin Elness and Sonja Peters scored the team’s two runs. Ida Rogers-Ferguson, Mariah Feehan and Peters had the team’s three hits.

SWU’s next game is today against Worthington, while E/SWC plays Saturday in the Wabasso Invitational.

ML/B-O 13, Adrian 10

ELLSWORTH – The Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin softball team improved to 2-2 on the season with a win over Adrian Thursday.

The winning pitcher was McKenzie Hopwood, who tossed six innings. Janessa Peters pitched the final inning for the Wolverines.

Jessi Meyer started the game for Adrian, but Rachel Kontz picked up the loss in her relief stint.

At the plate, Adrian was led by Autumn Engelkes, who was 4-for-4 with three RBIs and a double. She is the first Adrian player this season to have a hit each time she was up to bat in a game.

Kontz was 3-for-4 with three doubles, Heidi Nolte was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Courtney Vaske was 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Dragons.

ML/B-O’s Brianna Wenner was 2-for-5 with two runs and a double, Hopwood was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a double, Briana Wolff was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, Peters was 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs, Maggie Wahdan was 2-for-4 with an RBI, Natalie Junker was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Haley Hamilton was 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Adrian (1-4) plays again today against Minneota, while ML/B-O plays Saturday in the Martin County West tournament.
