WORTHINGTON — Nobles County Veterans Service Officer, Bill “Brock” Brockberg departed Friday for Camp Shelby, Miss., to participate in the Post Mobilization of Minnesota National Guard Troops returning from their deployment to Kuwait.

Brockberg will be a part of three teams of county veterans service officers to travel to Camp Shelby and assist the Guard troops with their reintegration event. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and the Association of County Veterans Service Officers have budgeted money and resources to help and serve the Guard soldiers, most of whom are now returning from their year-long deployment.

The reintegration event assists soldiers with administrative tasks, out-processing and transformation from active-duty to reserve status and to discuss and be counseled on their VA benefits. With every deployment of Guard or Reserve Soldiers, an automatic change in eligibility for certain VA benefits occurs. Brockberg will work with the soldiers to determine their eligibility for VA medical benefits, advise them of changes in their GI bill education benefits, get their discharge documents filed with the Veterans Administration and assess any needs for any other help and support.

Brockberg will return and resume his regular duties and office hours in Worthington on April 23.
