Letter: With pet ownership comes responsibility

I have a few questions for all of you irresponsible dog owners out there: Just what makes you think that it is all right for you to use my property as a toilet for your dog? What kind of twisted logic has led you to the conclusion that cleaning up your dog’s mess is my job? Does it make you feel good to know that when my grandson tipped his bicycle over recently he nearly landed face first in a pile of your dog’s mess that you deliberately left on my sidewalk?
The fact that you think it is OK to do this is so preposterous that I can hardly come up with the words to describe it. I think the best explanation is that your selfishness, laziness and arrogance are exceeded only by your stupidity.
I have pondered writing this letter many times, but in the end always decided to just let it go. But, as Eldon Larson related in his recent letter, I feel like Popeye when he says, “It’s all I can stands and I can’t stands no more!”
Fair warning: if I ever am lucky enough to catch you in the act, I will be all over you like flies on the pile of mess that your dog left in my yard. And rest assured, I will also call the police. With today’s cell phone technology, it will be easy enough to have a nice video of the action to show them.
I’m tired of having my rights violated by people who are too lazy and disrespectful to shoulder the responsibilities that come with owning a pet. If you don’t want to clean up after your animal, get rid of it!
Finally, to all the responsible pet owners that control your animals and clean up after them; thank you. If you see someone not cleaning up after their pet, call them on it. Don’t let them give all pet owners a bad reputation.
