MARSHALL — Worthington’s boys’ golf team finished fifth out of five teams and the girls’ took fourth out of six teams at the Marshall invitational at Marshall Country Club Saturday.

“I was really pleased with what we did,” WHS coach Ron Wood said about the boys’ outing. “It did not meet our expectations, but it was one of our lowest scores we’ve ever had at Marshall.

“It was just a step toward getting to where this team wants to be.”

The Worthington boys’ squad shot a 351 on the day. Alex Kremer led the way for the boys, shooting an 84, while Jake Woll shot an 85, Seth Meier chipped in an 89 and Will Mulder’s 93, Jacob Weg’s 94 and Zach Heidebrink’s 103 rounded out the scoring for the Trojans.

The girls’ shot a 397 behind Kate Lesnar’s 83, which earned her medalist honors. Mariah Haffield finished the day with a 97, while Morgan Harberts chipped in a 102, Tyree Murray hit a 111 and Becca Christensen had a 123 to round out the scoring for the Trojans.

“We threw away 25 strokes on the putting surface,” Wood said. “They’re usually not that far off, but they just were for the day. We were kind of short on players because of the ACT, but there’s no excuses.”

Worthington will host Luverne today.
