LUVERNE — Luverne’s boys’ tennis team moved to 8-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over Madison (S.D.) Tuesday.

Joey Vajgrt won at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3, Jonny Vajgrt won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 and Andrew Jelken won at No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-0.

“Jonny and Andrew really overwhelmed their opponents,” LHS coach Greg Antoine said. “They really moved the ball around and took advantage of being in control.”

In doubles action, Ethan Johnson and Nathan Stensland-Bos won at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-4 and Austin Stroeh and Hunter Robinson won at No. 3 doubles 6-3, 6-2.

“Austin and Hunter jumped out and won the first set and then held on to win in two sets,” Antoine said. “As a team, we need to work on putting the bll in play and then putting it where we can get an advantage and finish the point.

“We need to start getting in the right position after we hit a shot and we need to get ready for the next shot.”

Luverne hosts O’Gorman Wednesday and Redwood Valley Thursday.
