LUVERNE — Luverne’s boys’ tennis team moved to 9-1 on the season with a 5-2 victory over O’Gorman Thursday.

Joey Vajgrt took down Daniel Waddell 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Dustin Deutsch defeated Cris Gahjer 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for Luverne.

In doubles action, Blake Ziegler and Ethan Johnson defeated Nick Moran and Austin Bauer 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles for Luverne, while Scott Nelson and Nathan Stensland-Bos knocked off Dominic Rausch and Carter Kosiak at No. 2 doubles 6-2, 6-1 and Austin Stroeh and Matt Arends defeated Ryan Morgans and Joey Gaspari 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 doubles for the Cardinals.

“We played more tennis tonight rather than just hit the ball hard and hope for the best,” LHS coach Greg Antoine said. “Our doubles teams switched around today for a change of pace and they really play well with each other.

“We are pretty deep at doubles. I really don’t think there is much difference in any of the eight players we use.”

Luverne hosts Redwood Valley today.
