PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: MCC gets 3-1 win over RRC/W-WG without a hit

SLAYTON — There were no earned runs in the baseball game between Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove and Murray County Central Thursday, but the Rebels pulled out a 3-1 victory.

SLAYTON — There were no earned runs in the baseball game between Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove and Murray County Central Thursday, but the Rebels pulled out a 3-1 victory.

And they did so without getting a hit.

Nate Wieneke, Austin Kluis and Seth Bass each scored runs for MCC (5-1) and Sam Erickson struck out 12, while giving up three hits and two walks on the mound for the Rebels.

Daniel Maras scored the lone run for RRC/W-WG (5-3) on a Logan Willhite sacrifice fly. Brady Bierl picked up the loss on the mound despite giving up no hits, striking out five and walking six in a complete game effort.

MCC will play at Tracy-Milroy-Balaton today.

JACKSON — The Jackson County Central baseball team defeated Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin Thursday, improving the Huskies’ record to 4-2.

Taylor Christopher tossed six innings for JCC, giving up one earned run on five hits, walking no batters and striking out three.

At the plate, Josh Thaemlitz was 2-for-2 with three RBIs, Brett Larson was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Dustin Pronk was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Christopher was 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

The Wolverines’ Carter Kirk recorded the sole RBI for the visiting team.

JCC’s next game is today against Fairmont, while ML/B-O takes on Windom today.

Luverne 8, PA 2

PIPESTONE — The Luverne baseball team defeated Pipestone Area Thursday, improving the Cardinals’ record to 7-1.

Josh Slieter picked up the win for Luverne, tossing 2 1/3 innings in relief, striking out five, giving up one hit and walking no batters.

At the plate for Luverne, Richard Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Johnny Solma was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI, Matt Overgaard was 1-for-3 with a walk, a double an RBI and a run scored and Brady Dinger was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI.

For the Arrows, Damian Skyberg was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Jacob Derby scored PA’s other run.

Luverne’s next game is today against Buffalo, while PA takes on Edgerton/Southwest Christian on Monday.
