Dan Wetering knocked off Avery Ploeger at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-2 and Jonah Oberloh and Carter Lindner beat Levi Carstensen and Jared Carlson 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles to lead the Trojans.

Lance Homan defeated Jared Schiebout 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, Andrew Johnson beat Nathan Baatz at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-0 and Matt Sorensen knocked off Trace Lueck 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

“We played Pipestone before, so we knew what to expect, but we still had to execute,” Mike Marquardt said. “We changed the lineup and tried some different people at different spots and they stepped up, which is what you want at this point in the season.

“We still need to do some fine tuning on the fundamentals. It always comes down to fundamentals.”

In JV action, Jonah McDonald and Bryan Doeden won 6-0, 6-3, Travis Vuong won 6-0, 6-1 and Nick Newman won 6-0, 6-0.

Worthington will host Lac Qui Parle Valley today.

LHS 7, RV 0

LUVERNE — Luverne cruised by Redwood Valley in boys’ tennis action Thursday.

Joey Vajgrt won at No. 1 singles, Dustin Deutsch took No. 2 singles, Jonny Vajgrt won No. 3 singles and Andrew Jelken won No. 4 singles for Luverne.

In doubles action, Scott Nelson and Blake Ziegler won No. 1 doubles, Ethan Johnson and Nathan Stensland-Bos won No. 2 doubles and Matt Arends and Zach Gillette won No. 3 doubles for the Cardinals (10-1).

“We used our experience to our advantage today,” LHS coach Greg Antoine said. “I wanted the kids to work on the idea of one more shot. Get your opponent in a bad spot and then hit one more shot for an easy winner.

“All of our kids played well today. They were probably supposed to win today, but some times that is when things go wrong.”

Luverne will play at Worthington Tuesday.
