PREP TENNIS: WHS knocks off YME 6-1

GRANITE FALLS — Worthington’s boys’ tennis squad moved to 6-1 on the season with a 6-1 win over Yellow Medicine East Monday.

GRANITE FALLS — Worthington’s boys’ tennis squad moved to 6-1 on the season with a 6-1 win over Yellow Medicine East Monday.

Dan Wetering won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Andrew Johnson won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles and Matt Sorensen won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.

“Our singles had a few hiccups, but they got the job done,” WHS coach Mike Marquardt said.

In doubles action, Jonah Oberloh and Carter Lindner took their No. 1 doubles match 6-1, 6-2, A.J. Hayenga and Ben Christensen won No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-1 and Ben Doeden and Dillon Pedersen won No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-0.

“Doubles played very well today,” Marquardt said. “I was very pleased with how they started points and how they finished points.”

Worthington will host Luverne today.

“The match versus Luverne should be a good one,” Marquardt said. “We want to keep improving and getting better with every match.

“You’re only as good as your last match.”

Nick Newman and Kody Honius won a doubles exhibition 8-1 and Travis Vuong won a JV singles match 8-1.
