Luverne — Luverne cruised past Montevideo in boys' tennis action Monday, as the Cardinals shut out Montevideo 7-0.

Luverne — Luverne cruised past Montevideo in boys' tennis action Monday, as the Cardinals shut out Montevideo 7-0.

"We mixed up our lineup a little to get ready for section play," LHS coach Greg Antoine said. "We wanted to see some different combinations on the courts.

"The doubles teams really played well today. They seemed to mix with their new partners quite well. In section play you can have three different lineups and we want to have some options depending on who we play."

Jonny Vajgrt won at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, Dustin Deutsch took No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1, Andrew Jelken was victorious at No. 3 singles in a 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 battle and Austin Stroeh won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2 for Luverne (13-1).

In doubles action, Jonny Vajgrt and Blake Ziegler won No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-0, Ethan Johnson and Scott Nelson won No. 2 doubles 6-1, 6-0 and Nathan Stensland-Bos and Matt Arends took home the win at No. 3 doubles 6-1, 6-2.

Luverne will play Sioux Falls Lincoln in Sioux Falls today.
