PREP BASEBALL: Nyborg hits two home runs and racks up six RBIs to lead Jackson County Central

JACKSON – Carsen Nyborg was 3-for-4 with six RBIs at the plate with a pair of home runs, including a first-inning grand slam, to lead Jackson County Central as the Huskies held off the Windom Eagles, 9-8, in a Southwest Conference baseball game.

JACKSON – Carsen Nyborg was 3-for-4 with six RBIs at the plate with a pair of home runs, including a first-inning grand slam, to lead Jackson County Central as the Huskies held off the Windom Eagles, 9-8, in a Southwest Conference baseball game.

JCC (9-2, 7-1) jumped out to a 7-1 lead after two innings but Windom snapped off a six-run third inning to narrow the margin, before tying the game in the sixth. The hosts used a suicide-squeeze bunt play in the bottom of the sixth to plate the decisive run.

In addition to Nyberg’s stand-out day, Zach Copley (1-3) also homered for the Huskies, Cooper Moore (2-for-3) scored two runs and Taylor Christopher (RBI) and Dustin Pronk were each 2-for-4.

Windom (3-11, 1-9) was led at the plate by Tim Larson (2-for-4 with two RBIs), Travis Janssen (2-for-3 with an RBI), Brandon Thongviving (1-for-4 with two runs and an RBI) and Drake Borsgard (1-for-4 with a double and an RBI).

Pronk earned the win for JCC on the hill.

Both teams return to action today as the Huskies host Fairmont and the Eagles travel to St. James.

PIPESTONE – The Pipestone Area Arrows dropped a Southwest Conference game to the Marshall Tigers Thursday as the visitors broke open a 4-3 contest with eight runs in the seventh inning to claim the win.

PA (5-8, 2-6) had runs scored by Damian Skyberg, Nathan Dubblede and Alex Ossefoort, while Austin Evans drove in two of those runs with sacrifice flys and Josh Mabon used a squeeze bunt to plate a run.

The Arrows travel to Redwood Valley for a doubleheader Saturday.

EDGERTON – A seven-run third inning propelled Murray County Central to a Red Rock Conference win over Edgerton/Southwest Christian Thursday.

Ryan Erickson led the Rebels with three RBIS on a 2-for-4 effort, while Nate Wieneke, Darien Schreiber and Chris Halbur each scored two runs.

Blake Jouwstra blasted a home run to go with three RBIS on a 2-for-4 day for the Eagles, followed by Damon Vander Maten’s two runs on a 1-for-2 and Devin Jouwstra’s 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

MCC (9-2, 8-1) plays at Russell-Tyler-Ruthton today, while E/SWC (2-8, 2-6) hosts Mountain Lake/Butterfield/Odin Monday.

RRC/WWG 6-5, Adrian 3-9

LAMBERTON – The Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove and the Adrian baseball teams battled to a split of a Red Rock Conference doubleheader Thursday.

Game 1 went to the hosts as Daniel Maras drove in two runs on 2-for-3, while Dylan Bunting and Henry Rogotzke were each 2-for-3. Colby Davis earned the pitching win, going the final four innings and striking out six in relief of Brady Bierl.

Jake Tiede suffered the loss for the Dragons, going the distance. Mitchell Sieve and Nick Reyned finished the opener with two singles apiece.

The visitors used a pair of four-run innings in the third and fourth frames to garner the split.

Sieve struck out four in a complete-game win and outdueled Bunting, who struck out two in 4 2/3 innings.

Jake Diekmann paced Adrian at the plate with an RBI on a 2-for-4, followed by Sieve with a 2-for-3 and three RBIs, Adam Garms with a two-run triple and AJ Tiesler’s 2-for-3.

Logan Willhite, Taylor Vollmer and Jacob Comnick (two RBIs) each went 2-for-4 for the Falcons in the nightcap.

RRC/W-WG (10-5, 6-3) hosts Wabasso Monday, while Adrian (5-9, 3-6) travels to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Saturday for a game that starts at noon.
