REDWOOD FALLS — Worthington’s softball team dropped a doubleheader to Redwood Valley Thursday, as the Trojans went down 1-0 and 5-1 in the Southwest Conference showdown, striking out 22 times on the day.
“We weren’t able to generate much on offense,” WHS coach Sam Baumgartner said. “Their pitcher was just too effective.”
In Game 1, RV scored one run in the first inning and that was all the Cardinals would need, as the Trojans (8-8, 4-6) could muster just two hits on the day.
K.C. Riley had the lone hits for WHS in the form of a single and double. Angela Robinson struck out three and gave up five hits and no earned runs in six innings on the mound for the Trojans.
“It was a shame that we lost Game 1 on an unearned run,” Baumgartner said. “We should have scored, but we just weren’t able to muster up any offense.”
In Game 2, the slow offense continued for the Trojans, as Worthington could muster up just one run on three hits.
Riley had a single, while Jen Majerus was 2-for-3 with a double an an RBI and Robinson struck out four, while walking one in seven innings on the mound for the Trojans.
“We’re playing much sharper,” Baumgartner said. “We’re more aware of what to do. The hitting wasn’t there.
“We have the ability to compete with anybody if we play the way we are supposed to.”
