WHS BOYS' TENNIS: WHS tennis moves to 8-2

MONTEVIDEO — Worthington’s boys’ tennis squad moved to 8-2 on the season with a 5-2 win over Montevideo Thursday.

Dan Wetering won at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-3, Lance Homan won a battle at No. 2 singles 0-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5), Carter Lindner fell at No. 3 singles 6-4, 0-6, 7-6 (7-4) and Andrew Johnson won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-1 for the Trojans.

“We feel we have many combinations we could have,” WHS coach Mike Marquardt said. “We have a lot of players who have the same amount of talent, so it’s just a matter of finding the right combinations.”

At No. 1 doubles, Matt Sorensen and Jonah Oberloh won 6-1, 6-4, Dillon Pedersen and Ben Doeden fell at No. 2 doubles 6-4, 6-2 and A.J. Hayenga and Nick Newman won at No. 3 doubles 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

“We’re playing well right now and we’re in charge of our own destiny,” Marquardt said. “We changed up the lineup and put pressure on the guys and they stepped up.

“We are doing some trial and error with the lineup and it’s like life; you take the good with the bad and try different things.”

In JV action, Travis Vuong and Bryan Doeden won 6-4, 6-3 for the Trojans.

Worthington will travel to Redwood Valley today.
