MARSHALL — Worthington’s softball team closed the regular season with a sweep of Marshall in a Southwest Conference doubleheader Thursday. The Trojans knocked off the Tigers 12-0 in Game 1 and 6-3 in Game 2.
“We closed out the season on a high note and we played really solid softball,” WHS coach Sam Baumgartner said. “We played focused softball and it’s a solid showing heading into section playoffs.”
In Game 1, Paige Kinley was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and K.C. Riley was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for WHS (11-8, 6-6).
Trojan pitcher Angela Robinson didn’t need much run support, as she struck out six, walked none and scattered five hits in five innings for the win.
In Game 2, Kinley was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs and Robinson was 2-for-3 at the dish. Robinson pitched another gem, striking out 10 and walking two in seven innings in the regular season finale.
“Everyone is 0-0 now,” Baumgartner said. “We’ve had our ups and downs, so it depends on what team shows up Tuesday.
“We have the ability to win. Hopefully we can bring this momentum to next week.”
Worthington will open the playoffs Tuesday versus St. James at Pipestone.

JCC sweeps doubleheader with LHS
LUVERNE — Jackson County Central’s girls’ softball team beat Luverne 9-2 and 10-0 Thursday.
Brooke Klontz went all seven innings in Game 1, striking out three and walking five, while going 2-for-4 with a double at the plate for JCC (9-11). Marita Rasche, Caitlin Muir and Moira Carlson were all 2-for-4 for the Huskies.
Ashley Olson was 3-for-4 and Ashley Otten and Emily Robinson were each 1-for-3 with a triple for Luverne (9-11) in Game 1.
In Game 2, Carlson struck out eight and walked two in five innings for JCC, while Rasche was 3-for-4 with four runs, Jasmine Erickson was 4-for-4 with two runs and two doubles and Carlson was 2-for-2 with two runs and a triple at the plate for the Huskies.
Tara Sudenga, Mallory Edwards and Paige Baker each had a hit for LHS in Game 2.
JCC and LHS will play each other at New Ulm in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday.

Arrows finish regular season 19-0
PIPESTONE — Pipestone Area’s softball team put the finishing touches on a perfect regular season with a sweep of Murray County Central Thursday. The Arrows won 10-0 in Game 1 and 5-2 in Game 2.
Tasia Woelber struck out 10 and walked one in five innings in Game 1 on the mound for PA (19-0). Kelly Nettick was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs, Tiffany Woelber was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and Libby Schneider was 2-for-2 with two RBIs at the plate for the Arrows in Game 1.
In Game 2, Nettick and Tasia Woelber combined for 14 strikeouts on the mound, while Brittany Evans was 2-for-3 at the plate.
PA will host Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday.

SANBORN — Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove closed out the regular season with a win over Comfrey/Cedar Mountain in softball action Thursday.
Klarissa Larsen was 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a two-run homer, Angela Hannemann was 2-for-3, Fern Engen was 1-for-3 and Aubrey Willhite got the win on the mound for RRC/W-WG (5-14).
RRC/W-WG will take on Pipestone Area in the opening round of the playoffs Tuesday at Pipestone.
