Earlier this month, the Office of the Legislative Auditor released a report detailing some of the opportunities for further collaboration among local governments. The Association of Minnesota Counties (AMC) subsequently distributed a news release proclaiming the report showed that this type of teamwork is the “best path to reform.”

“The report also recommends that any effort to consolidate city, county or township governments remain in the hands of local governments and citizens,” the AMC news release stated.

We can’t help but note that while the AMC is touting the benefits of local governments working together, Nobles County officials are hoping to stake out a new path.

As Nobles County looks to hire a new interim administrator, county commissioners and staff alike should see this opportunity as a new beginning of sorts. In fact, county board chair David Benson told the Daily Globe Monday that one key goal in the coming months is to regain the trust of other community and county leaders throughout the region —and in turn bolstering relationships that have been damaged over the years.

It’s a goal well worth shooting for.
