Letter: German student enjoyed WHS prom

Now I’m here for more than nine months, and my time left is going very fast. Right now I’m still living with the Lopez family, and they are like a real family for me. I’m doing so many fun things on their farm. I like doing my homework outside, horseback riding and driving a four-wheeler around. I had so much fun making “Spätzle” (a popular German meal) for my host family.

Easter also was a really fun time for me. It is pretty similar to Easter in Germany. First we went to church, then we had a meal with the whole family, and then we went hiking on a field.

I also went to a Timberwolves game with the Lopezes. The atmosphere in Target Center was awesome, and it was exciting to see such a good basketball game. Of course, we also went to the Mall of America in Minneapolis, and I had a great time.

This quarter I did track as a sport. At the beginning it was really hard for me to keep up with everyone because I was not used to running, but with practice I improved. I did long-distance running and pole vaulting. I enjoyed getting to know the coaches and all of my teammates. This was my first time doing something like this, but I may continue in Germany.

One of my highlights of the whole year was definitely prom. We don’t have anything like that in Germany. I enjoyed everything about it — like picking out a dress, going through the grand march, the dance and the hypnotist.

I can’t believe my school year is almost over! It went by so fast, and I learned so much about my different classes and about American high schools.

I am excited for my family to come to Worthington June 3, and they are eager to meet everyone I have gotten to know.

It was so awesome to get to know everyone here in Worthington, especially because everyone is so nice here and helped me with every little problem I had. I can’t believe I’ll have to go back so soon, and I wish I could stay another year.

Thank you to the whole town of Worthington for making my year the best I could imagine!
