TYLER — Edgerton/Southwest Christian was one out away from having an official game with a 5-2 lead Wednesday before lightning struck and the game was suspended. The Flying Dutchmen learned that good things come to those who wait, as the game was finished Friday with E/SWC moving on in the Section 3A baseball playoffs via a 6-2 win over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton.

R-T-R struck first with two unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning. Abel Romandia and Shay Wabeke were hit by pitches in back-to-back at bats to put the Knights up 2-0.

E/SWC (4-10) answered right back as Nathan Pfeifle hit a two-run blast in the next inning to tie the game. Dominic Nibbelink hit a single, stole second, moved to third on a Damon Vander Maten bunt and scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Blake Jouwstra to give E/SWC a lead it would never relinquish.

Nibbelink struck again in the top of the fifth inning, singling and stealing second before Luke Nibbelink walked. The Nibbelinks moved to second and third on a double steal and both scored on a Vander Maten single to make it 5-2. Two outs into the bottom of the fifth inning the rains came and the game was suspended until Thursday.

The rains came again Thursday and the game was pushed to Friday where Pfeifle scored in the top of the seventh on an error to round out the scoring for E/SWC.

Dominic Nibbelink didn’t need much technically throwing a three-day, seven-inning shutout, giving up no earned runs and striking out four.

E/SWC will take on Murray County Central today in Slayton.
