PREP BASEBALL ROUNDUP: Eagles move on in 3A playoffs, beat Rabbits and Wolverines

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Windom’s baseball team will move on to the double elimination portion of the playoffs in Section 3A action thanks to a 5-2 win over Wabasso and a 15-0 win over Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin Saturday in Mountain Lake.

Travis Janssen, Jacob Johnson and Brandon Thongvivong each had RBI singles and Danny Kneeland had a two-run double to lead Windom over Wabasso in Game 1.

In Game 2, Thongvivong had two RBIs, while Janssen and Johnson added RBI singles to lead Windom over ML/B-O. Collin Lovell threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout and struck out eight to get the win in Game 2.

Windom will take on Canby Wednesday in Granite Falls.

ML/B-O 4, Adrian 1

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Mountain Lake knocked off Adrian in its first game Saturday 4-1 behind a three-run homer from Carter Kirl amd an RBI single from Beau Herrig.

Herrig threw a complete game five-hitter, while striking out two to get the win for ML/B-O (11-10).

Jake Diekman had an RBI single to lead Adrian (7-12).

LHS beats JCC, falls to Fairmont

FAIRMONT — Luverne defeated Jackson County Central 3-0 in its playoff opener Saturday before falling to Fairmont 3-2 in baseball playoff action.

In Game 1, Josh Slieter was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run, Gunnar Olson was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Reed Skattum pitched seven innings, giving up no runs and striking out 10 to lead LHS to the win over JCC.

Dustin Pronk, Taylor Christopher, Carson Nyborg and Phil Buschena each had hits for JCC.

In Game 2, Fairmont scored one in the bottom of the seventh to end the Cardinals’ season. Johnny Solma and Slieter had the lone RBIs for LHS.
