PREP SOFTBALL: Do or die for E/SWC, PA

MARSHALL — Pipestone Area’s softball team’s first loss of the season came at the wrong time, as the Arrows defeated Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 12-2 in six innings, but fell to New Ulm 5-2 in the Final Four of Section 3AA Saturday at Marshall.

MARSHALL — Pipestone Area’s softball team’s first loss of the season came at the wrong time, as the Arrows defeated Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta 12-2 in six innings, but fell to New Ulm 5-2 in the Final Four of Section 3AA Saturday at Marshall.

The Arrows now have no room for error, as they will take on MA/C-B today at Marshall with the winner requiring two wins versus New Ulm Thursday to claim a section title.

In Game 1, Tasia Woelber pitched six innings, struck out 12 and walked three to earn the win, while Amanda Haupert went 2-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, Tiffany Woelber went 4-for-4 with five RBIs, two doubles and a triple and Brittany Evans was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead PA (22-1).

In Game 2, Tasia Woelber picked up the loss, striking out six and walking four on the mound. Cassie Evans was 2-for-3, while Tiffany Woelber, Haupert and Mikayla Enger were each 1-for-3 to lead the Arrows.

E/SWC fall into elimination bracket in 3A

SLAYTON — Edgerton/Southwest Christian dropped its first game versus undefeated Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Saturday 4-0, but knocked off Dawson-Boyd 6-2 to stay alive in the Flying Dutchmen’s hunt toward a section championship.

E/SWC (18-4) will take on Lakeview today in Marshall with the winner moving on to face K-M-S Thursday back at Marshall. If the Flying Dutchmen defeat Lakeview today, they will need to defeat K-M-S twice in order to claim a section title Thursday.
