Letter: Police officer shouldn't play games with vehicle

While driving down the street in town, I was forced to stop my vehicle in the middle of the street. What was going on in front of me caused me to really wonder if this was really proper use of a city police car.
The home owner (either a fellow officer or very good friend) had placed his garbage can on the city curb for pick-up the next day. The police car then got behind his garbage can and was pushing it down the street to the next residence while the home owners stood in the garage laughing.
Now I ask you: Had that been me using my car to do the same thing, and the police officer was forced to stop and wait until I finished playing in the street, would I have gotten a ticket for this? I would venture a guess I would be paying a fine for the very same prank. When the officer finally realized somebody was behind him, he stopped, pulled out of the way and allowed me to pass. Meanwhile, the homeowner rescued his garbage from the neighbors’ driveway and placed it back in his own.
I get it, boys will be boys, but next time, maybe don’t do it with the city police car. And then don’t write somebody else a ticket for the same thing.
