SIBLEY, Iowa — After winning his third election, Osceola County Sheriff Douglas Weber is pleased with the amount of support he got from citizens of the county.
Weber emerged victorious Tuesday after a primary election against fellow Republican opponent Matt Block, who announced his candidacy in March.
“I received a lot of words of encouragement, some from people I didn’t even expect to hear it from,” Weber said Tuesday night. “I had overwhelming public support and felt pretty good about (the campaign).”
This is Weber’s third campaign, and probably the toughest, he acknowledged. He ran unopposed the first time he sought office, and his opponent didn’t mount a serious campaign when Weber sought re-election.
“This opponent had a campaign, and that made it harder,” Weber said. “I’m glad it is over with.”
The primary election in Iowa Tuesday whittled down the number of candidates. In northwest Iowa, it was mostly about Republicans. There were races between state representatives, county supervisors and sheriffs.
