LUVERNE — Worthington’s VFW baseball team crushed New Ulm 16-3 in the Luverne tournament Friday. Friday’s victory was a bit more pleasant to the eye than the 10-7 win Post 3958 had over Adrian Thursday.
“The nice thing about baseball is you get another chance to fix things the next night,” Worthington coach T.D. Hostikka said. “Everything I talk about (Thursday) they did tonight.”
Tristan Sorenson got the win on the mound, pitching five innings and giving one earned run on five hits and two walks to go along with seven strikeouts for Worthington (7-2).
Ryan Lee was 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs, Carson Hagen was 2-for-2 with two runs and four RBIs, Trevor Wietzema was 2-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs and Nate Braaksma was 2-for-2 with a run to lead Worthington at the plate.
Worthington will take on West Central (S.D) and Luverne today in the final rounds of the tournament.
“When you play New Ulm, you know you’re playing a quality team,” Hostikka said. “New Ulm is a sound, fundamental team, but we just did all the things that we talked about having to do and it was nice to see.
