Obituary: Mildred Markman

Mildred Markman, 100, of Lakefield, died on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, MN.

Mildred Markman, 100, was born on October 15, 1911, in Worthington, MN. She was the daughter of Fred and Clara (Hanefeld) Leistico. Mildred married Carl John Markman on June 23, 1934, in Worthington. They owned and operated the Sunset Motel in Worthington for 17 years. Mildred was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington until 1975 when they moved to Loon Lake. They then became members of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, baking, gardening, and spending time at the lake with family. Mildred died on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Lakefield, MN.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Ron Markman of Brewster, MN and LeRoy Markman of CA; four grandchildren, Sonja Sletto, Sandi (Bruce) Heidemann, and Cheryl (Tom) Johnson, all of Sioux Falls, SD, and Philip (Peggy) Markman of Jackson, MN; nine great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren, and one brother, Albert Leistico of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; daughter-in-law, Clara Markman; five sisters, and seven brothers.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at 11:00 a.m., at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield, MN, with Rev. Bart Mueller officiating. Great grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Burial will be held prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. at the Worthington Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of the arrangements.
