Letter: Plenty of thanks to be given for Cop on Top

On the behalf of the Worthington Police Department and Special Olympics of Minnesota, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to the many of you who made Cop on Top 2012 a truly successful event.

On the behalf of the Worthington Police Department and Special Olympics of Minnesota, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and thanks to the many of you who made Cop on Top 2012 a truly successful event.

For starters, thanks to the Daily Globe and Radio Works Productions. Both of these businesses donated their time — whether it was sitting down with me to do an article, or the time it took to do a radio spot or public service announcement. Both of these businesses were crucial in getting the word out about the fundraiser, which is imperative to its success. In addition, both businesses donated amazing prizes to which the prospective winners and actual winners are excited and grateful.

Also, a huge thank-you to Hy-vee, not only for teaming up with us for the last two years but also for making sure that everyone who participated was well taken care of. Your staff was a pleasure to work with and made the logistical side of things run very smoothly — not to mention all the advertising, and donation of the $100 gift card. We look forward to working with you again.

Thank you to Dairy Queen for all the free ice cream cones for the little ones and for donating 10 percent of all sales made during certain hours of the fundraiser — and for the ice cream cake, and I know for fact that this winner is excited to claim his prize.

Thank you to Carrie Heidebrink for donating several massages from Bodywise.

While we are all excited about and grateful for the chance to win one of these amazing prizes, I think that it is very evident that this community recognizes the real importance behind this fundraiser: to raise money and awareness for a good cause. The reason I know this is true is by the number of donations we received and the amount of some of those donations. While I have said this before and will say it again, every penny counts. So if you donated even a penny, you do matter and you do make a difference. And for that, we thank you.

I would also like to recognize some of the local businesses who contributed what we like to call “a good chunk of change.” A very special thank-you goes to our biggest donator, Hubbard Feeds. How generous!

Also thank you to Highland Manufacturing, Sanford Medical Center, Zuercher Technologies, State Farm-Jason Vote, Malters, Shepherd and VonHoltum, JBS and Davis Typewriter. The list goes on and on.

To the community of Worthington, to the businesses and the private individuals who donated to Cop on Top 2012: thank you. Each and every one of you helped raise more than $9,300, and that is something to be proud of!
