SIBLEY, Iowa — The sun is shining, the temperatures are rising, and a trip to the pool continues to look inviting. That can only mean one thing — it’s Good Ole Summertime.
The festival starts on Saturday at 9 a.m. with Fish Iowa at Sibley Pits, open to ages 7 through 14.
Also at 9 a.m. is a volleyball tournament, a new event at the festival sponsored by Relay for Life. The tournament will be held at Central Park and requires pre-registration and a $10 fee to participate.
There will be a Disc Golf Tournament at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, in addition to the Poker Run and Fun on Main Street.
“The Poker Run usually has a pretty good turn out,” said Amy Smith, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce. “So does Fun on Main Street. There are carnival games, and the fire department has water games and fire truck rides, those are big highlights.”
Both the Disc Golf Tournament and the Poker Run require pre-registration and a $10 participation fee.
The parade will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday evening, with Golf Ball Races to follow on Main Street.
Smith specifically wanted to highlight the Benefit Fundraiser for Brad and Lisa Block.
“They recently lost their daughter. She was born with some disabilities and just recently passed away,” said Smith. “People can go to the parade, and then come to the benefit fundraiser afterwards.”
The fundraiser will be held at the American Legion Building from 5-8 p.m.
Fun-N-Float at the Sibley Swimming Pool will be held from 6-8 p.m. The Cruise-In, also starting at 6 p.m., will be open to all classic and muscle type vehicles. Karaoke will follow at the Alley 7.
There will be a Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast on Sunday Morning at the Sibley Fire Department.
“We’re just wishing all fathers a Happy Father’s day,” said Smith.
There will also be a Christian Fellowship time at Central Park Sunday evening at 6 p.m.
And just in case the sun isn’t shining this weekend, any cancellations will be posted on Sibley’s website.
“If we do postpone things, it will be for the next weekend,” said Smith.
